Bok Bok releases debut EP on Night Slugs

The ‘Southside’ EP is an accumulation of Bok Bok’s work and movement with Night Slugs

Fuelled by the UK grime sound from which he emerged, Bok Bok, the co-founder of Night Slugs (alongside L-Vis) happily releases his debut EP ‘Southside’, a representation of the distinct sound he has helped to pioneer.

“I feel grime’s given me a unique outlook on the music I play and make now. Especially because of how modular, creative and functionalist the music was,” says Bok Bok.

In collaboration with L-Vis, Bok Bok founded the Night Slugs record label last year, emanating sounds of tough, defiant, geometric, and stripped-down melodies that give partygoers a unique digital, outer-space dance experience. in a very short time, it’s become synonymous with innovation.

“I love music old and new,” he states. “I’m not concerned with limitations of genre, and I see similarities and opportunities for cross-pollination between disparate styles.”

The debut EP features five dance tunes showcasing Bok Bok’s hard-hitting sound and versatility. Each track features various musical elements, fusing raw and convulsive acid house with functionalist 8-bar grime.

Bok Bok’s style has garnered great recognition and has even landed him a spot on one of his favourite radio stations, Rinse FM, which for him has been a great honour.

Since his rise from the underground, Bok Bok and his Night Slugs have been a hot topic of conversation in electronic music, but he says that he pays very little attention to the positive press he has been receiving.

He believes that the music industry has steered away from its main focus, which is making music.

“Nowadays people are more focused on pushing a product and promoting themselves when really everyone needs to get back to the music,” he rallies.

As for his future, Bok Bok said all he wants to do is to continue to make good music for the dancefloor.

The ‘Southside EP’ drops 13th June…
